The Herb Garden at Hardstoft

Made up with a series of delightful gardens, the main one contains a mixture of culinary, medicinal and scented plants, and includes a parterre of sixteen flower beds.  Together with fragrant old roses that flank the sides of this garden, it is a riot of colour and perfume.

There is also a raised viewing garden where this lovely area can be better appreciated.

In another area is the Lavender Garden where many different varieties are grown, all clearly labelled.  The fragrance is at its best during July and August.

In addition there is a Physic Garden which contains many rare and unusual medicinal plants from all over the world, all with very comprehensive information.  There is also an Echinacea collection.

At the end of the garden is an extensive range of herbs for sale, in fact some 300 varieties.  The conservatory tea room serves morning coffee, light lunches and afternoon teas, and the delicious home-baked foods often use the many fresh herbs from the garden.

With its stunning view of Hardwick Hall this a delightful place to visit before going there.
